Ave, Colenda Trinitas!
Ave, Perennis Unitas!
Pater Deus, Nate Deus,
Et Deus Alme Spiritus! All hail, Adorèd Trinity!
All hail, Eternal Unity!
O God the Father, God the Son,
And God the Spirit, ever One!Excerpt from Ave Colenda Trinitas (early Medieval Anglo-Saxon); tr. John David Chambers (1857)
For the past few years, I’ve hosted a Liturgical Life group. We’re a diverse gathering - of all ages, from a variety of denominations, learning alongside each other and working to graft the traditions of the liturgical calendar into our own varied circumstances.
Just as May was at a close, amidst all the intensity with the end of the school year, we still managed to get together for a beautiful evening celebrating Trinity Sunday. It can be so hard to set time aside to prioritize gathering, but it is so fruitful and restorative. Somehow, it’s another addition to the calendar that seems to create more mental space rather than deplete.
Here’s a peek at how we celebrated Trinity together!
