Once your eyes are tuned in to see these great mysteries in nature, they’re found everywhere. The red clover is Mary’s Posies. What’s a posie? I think they’re like a nosegay.

Must’ve have been common place as there is a nursery rhyme named with them in it.

Mary's Posies!! I didn't know that. Thank you so much. And you're absolutely right - when we're attuned to the presence of these mysteries, everything lights up!

Poignant photos of your fields and the plants they hold. I like the way you describe it as both mourning and celebration. Sorrow is like that for me at this particular time as it is the first year anniversary of my Mum's death and so I am feeling both mourning but also thanks for her life and what she gave me as my mother. I see Mary as my Mother in a deeper way now that I am an orphan. She is comforting to me but especially because I know she understands sorrow and pain.

Those anniversaries and milestones are so incredibly hard...you're in my prayers, Cate. I'm so thankful for the solidarity and companionship we receive in our faith and the communion of saints.

Great commentary, thanks. It struck me on Sunday, driving to church and passing all the hawthorn trees covered in red berries, what an appropriate time of year for the feast of Holy Cross. And for OL of Sorrows to be the day after. I have a 7 Sorrows rosary, which I pray too rarely during the rest of the year but more often in September and of course today. Both these feast somehow seem fitting at this time, but you put it better than I do.

Thanks so much for your lovely comment...I'm glad this resonated with you, too. I love the vision of all those autumnal haws this time of year (I read a book about British hedgerows and it gave me such a hankering for hawthorn...especially with that crown of thorns connection). You're also reminding me that my 7 Sorrows rosary has been languishing in a drawer...
