And what is so rare as a day in June?
Then, if ever, come perfect days;
Then Heaven tries the earth if it be in tune,
And over it softly her warm ear lays:
Whether we look, or whether we listen,
We hear life murmur, or see it glisten;
Every clod feels a stir of might,
An instinct within it that reaches and towers,
And, groping blindly above it for light,
Climbs to a soul in grass and flowers…James Russell Lowell, excerpt from “June” ( in The Vision of Sir Launfal, 19th c.)
In each Almanac, you’ll find a ‘book of days’ to track this month’s HF gatherings & resources…a reveal of our monthly in-depth focus…whimsical creations to accompany & inspire us throughout all our June days…and a playlist to serenade.
Consider saving this post to peek back at it throughout the month!

» The stretch of Ordinary Time that we’re soon entering is a favorite of mine, but I know it can seem overwhelming because it’s so very long. Let’s work together on revealing all the life embedded in Ordinary Time, building up our own resources for celebration! I’ll have some practical ideas for how to carve out our holiday rhythms and distill them into a binder.JUNE 11 | Wednesday | St. Barnabas’ Day
WEEK OF JUNE 16 | Midsummer book club selection & dates announced

Let’s observe some of this month’s holy days and farm traditions by sitting with our community at the table - celebrating and connecting over a shared meal or special treat.
I’m a big believer in the movement that shared meals can create in our souls and our relationships: once we begin there, with the breaking of bread, we create momentum for more compassion and less isolation (with all its accompanying fallout of loneliness, misunderstandings, & envy). Our triune God is relationship, after all: His nature is communion. Sharing a simple meal with our people echoes this calling, helping us to give space for one another to disagree or make mistakes…all because we’ve taken the time to truly know each other.
Whether it’s a bag of chips, a glass of water, or something more elaborate, all of these shared moments at the table (or on the picnic blanket) can be charged with grace, however spontaneous or simple they may be.

To help give you some fun (and simple) ideas for your June feasts, I made a handful of recipe cards with sweet illustrations - each one has a quick blurb about the holiday to give you a starting point, as well as some brief connections with the food being featured.
Bon appétit!

P.S. If you use any of these festive recipes for your June meals, I would be absolutely tickled to see pictures of your creations!
As we enter the Season After Pentecost, we’ll soon be turning toward Midsummer celebrations - a whole string of lively summertime holidays, from St. Barnabas’ Day to Johnsmas to…the feast of Sts Peter & Paul!
This month, we’ll focus on celebrating Sts Peter & Paul - and see how their shared feast day illuminates the Midsummer feast, just a few days prior, of St. John the Baptist.
Reflections, history, folk traditions, art, and more will be available later in June
Paid members will receive a printable cover page and booklet for their liturgical year binders
I’m so looking forward to enjoying a liturgical summertime with you all! Let’s read some great books, head out into our neighborhoods, play outside, and - of course - go rushbearing (more on that soon!)
Thank you so much for joining me on the journey, friends. Your support helps me to continue researching, reflecting, & creating art, which gets poured back into this wonderful liturgical ecosystem…through resources created just for you, as well as the financial support that I can in turn offer to all of the authors, teachers, & creators who join us as guest speakers.
Pax et bonum,
Kristin
