February 2026 Almanac
Founder announcement, Lent calendar, & music for Lenten Valentines
Ploughmen go whistling to their toils
And yoke again the rested plough
And mingling o’er the mellow soils
Boys’ shouts and whips are noising nowThe shepherd now is often seen
By warm banks o’er his work to bend
Or o’er a gate or stile to lean
Chattering to a passing friendOdd hive bees fancying winter o’er
And dreaming in their combs of spring
Creeps on the slab beside their door
And strokes its legs upon its wing
While wild ones half asleep are humming
Round snowdrop bells a feeble note
And pigeons coo of summer coming
Picking their feathers on the coteJohn Clare, excerpt from “February” (19th c.)

A printable version of this month’s Almanac - including prompts for celebration, dip-pen illustrations, and a coordinated coloring sheet - is available in the Scriptorium.
You can also find this list of upcoming events posted in the Village Green.
The very first snowdrops have started to pop up beneath our mailbox (a springtime sign that I crave every winter), returning birds are foraging for over-wintered delicacies, hazel catkins are hanging like buntings in the hedgerow - and I can really feel the way February turns toward springtime.
In this month’s Almanac, we’re celebrating these early-spring feasts and also turning toward Lent…that vernal paradox of birth and death.

The February Almanac includes:
February calendar page with a selection of holy days & prompts, dip-pen illustrations, and links to connect you with more HF resources
Coloring page featuring my hand-drawn illustrations of February feast emblems
Print out these goodies (I recommend card-stock for the calendar and regular paper for the coloring page), and see how you can integrate the featured holidays into your existing plans!
ALSO | The updated Lent Botanical Coloring Calendar is now posted with 2026 dates (scroll down in the Scriptorium to find it in the ‘Movable Feasts & Seasons’ section)!

This February, let’s spend some time with the enigmatic St. Matthias - the Apostle who was chosen to replace Judas. His story is sparse, but generations have wrestled through that obscurity by understanding him in the context of winter’s transition to spring…let’s see what we can glean from that wisdom!
Reflections, history, folk traditions, art, and more will be available mid-February
Paid members will receive a printable cover page and booklet for their liturgical year binders, as well as a peek into how our liturgical living group celebrates this holiday
This month’s playlist is a wild mix of favorites for St. Valentine’s day & Lent & Springtime…like a Lenten (er…Shrovetide) Valentine card in music form.
Growing up, fall & winter were always my favorite seasons - and though I will forever love them, I’ve had such an affinity for springtime these past few years. Every bulb starting to peek through the soil feels like the most merciful gift after (in the midst of) a gray & rainy winter!
Are you noticing signs of spring where you are? (Or, for my southern hemisphere friends - are your days feeling a bit more autumnal here and there?)
Pax et bonum,
Kristin

My snowdrops are up too. They are so reassuring!
We are still in the depths of winter here. It looks like next week, the snow and ice will start to thaw and I hope to be able to see our land again, go explore, and see what I can find.
